Background; - Ethiopia is one of the countries with higher maternal mortality in the world that was estimated 11,000 in 2015 alone. Birth preparedness and complication readiness (BPCR) is important measure to improve utilization of maternal health which contributes for reducing maternal mortality. BPCR is a comprehensive package aimed at promoting timely access to skilled maternal and neonatal services. But limited study was found in Addis Ababa on BP/CR Objective: - To determine the prevalence and associated factors of birth preparedness and complication readiness among pregnant women in public health centers in Addis Ababa Method: - Facility based cross-sectional study was done in selected ten health centers in Addis Ababa. Multistage sampling technique was used to select health facilities by taking clients flow chart into account. Training was given to the data collectors prior to data collection. There were ten data collectors and two supervisors. Data was collected from March to April 2019 using structured questioner which was pretested in other health center. Then data was entered to Epi-data software version 3.1 by the principal investigator and SPSS 20 software program was used to analyze the entered data. OR were used to measure association and 95% CI and P-Value<0.05 were used as predictors of significant association. Binary and multivariable logistic regression was tatted. Result: - A total of 633 pregnant mothers were participated in the study. 322 (50.9%) of the participants were prepared for birth and ready for complication management. Mothers who came for ANC follow up and have ultrasound were found to be 98.3%. Government employee mothers (AOR=2.29 1.03, 5.09), educated mothers secondary (AOR=2.459; 1.002, 5.038), preparatory (AOR=3.254; 1.245, 8.506) and tertiary (AOR= 3.001; 1.173, 7.679), decision making power (AOR=0.56: 0.33, 0.95), and counseling on danger sign (AOR=1.78; 1.196 2.65), and counseling on birth preparedness complication readiness during ANC visit (AOR=1.395; 1.90, 2.16) had found significantly associated with birth preparedness complication readiness. Conclusion and recommendation: - Birth preparedness and complication readiness was low among study participants. Even if there were higher prevalence of ultrasound, Most birth prepared and complication ready mothers were those who were counseled. I suggest health providers to give more attention on counseling on danger sign and birth preparedness and complication readiness

Background: Risk for mothers, newborns dying are believed to be higher in home than hospital births, but homebirths, research continue. Objective: Present study was done to know place of birth, mode of delivery, outcome, satisfaction/dissatisfaction amongst tribal women in hilly forestry region with limited resources. Material Methods: From 52 villages where togetherness with communities was being developed, women, 20 to 35 yrs, with at least one birth within 5 years were interviewed. Results: Of 520 births, 229 (44%) had hospital, 291 (56%) home births. Experience was good in 179(78%), because had known that in case of complications, were at safe place, in safe hands. Fifty women (22% hospital births) were not happy, 22(12.2%) said, lost wages, 4.36% for other reasons, could not explain. Overall 225 had vaginal births, 220 in government, five at private hospitals. Of 223 public hospital births, 38% were in subdistrict hospital, 60% at primary health centers (133 normal + 1 breech), 5 (around 1% of all) at district, 6 (1% of all) at private hospital. Of 291 home births, 179 (61%) were conducted by Untrained Traditional Birth Attendants. Of 210 women of 20-25 years, 29 (13.8%) did not get time to go to hospital, 4 (1.9) did not have anyone, 20 (9.5%) had transport problem, 115 (39%) felt comfortable delivering at home. Majority 287 of 291(98.6%) home births, did not have any problem, were satisfied. Of 521 births in 520 women, 87 (16.6%) were obvious preterm. There were 13(2.49%) SB, 01 - (0.19%) early NND. FGDs revealed women believed TBAs did good job, were competent to deliver even when complications, were scared of operative hospital procedures. Other reasons were difficulties of going to hospital, lost resources, some felt shy. Care for mothers newborns in ways that made sense to women, babies, health workers is essential.

"In January of 1999, the National Birth Defects Prevention Network (NBDPN) established a Surveillance Guidelines and Standards Committee (SGSC) in order to develop and promote the use of standards and guidelines for birth defects surveillance programs in the United States. This set of guidelines is designed to serve as an important first step in the documentation of this process and as the vehicle for dissemination of the committee's findings. The Guidelines for Conducting Birth Defects Surveillance (henceforth referred to as The Surveillance Guidelines) were developed with three major long-term objectives in mind: To improve the quality of state birth defects surveillance data, including accuracy, comparability, completeness, and timeliness; To enhance the utility of state birth defects surveillance data for research on the distribution and etiology of birth defects; To encourage and promote the use of state birth defects surveillance data for the purposes of linking affected children with services and evaluation of those services. The technical guidelines that make up this document provide a way of improving the quality of birth defects surveillance data, which in turn enhances their use in support of the latter two objectives. Fundamental to quality is ensuring that procedures for all aspects of data definition, collection, management, and analysis are established and followed. Because state-based surveillance systems operate with different objectives and data needs, it is clear that, with respect to procedures and standards, 'one size does not fit all.' This study aimed to assess maternal satisfaction and associated factors with delivery care services uptake among mothers who gave birth at public health centers. An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted in the Yeka Sub-City in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. A systematic sampling technique was used to select mothers. Bivariable and multivariable analysis was done to identify associated variables. The overall mothers' satisfaction with delivery care services uptake was 63%. The median age of the participants was 28 years. In multivariable analysis privacy measures taken at delivery care services uptake, mothers' education level, occupational status of mothers, and family income level of mothers were associated with mothers' satisfaction in delivery care services. Mother's income levels of 1501 to 5000 birr were satisfied with the service (AOR = 2.49; 95% CI: 1.3, 4.76). However, mothers whose income below1500 birr were dissatisfied. In conclusion, a mother's educational level, occupational status, and family income affect mothers' satisfaction with delivery care services uptake in public health centers, in the Yeka Sub-City. Evaluating health care services uptake from the client's point of view and targeting to identify problems is very necessary.
